Late Roman Painting

I selected pigments that would have been common in Pompei before its fall for a 1976 room installation at P.S. 1. Here I again referred to Pompei examining reproductions of those Wall Paintings, choosing hues I wanted, mixing pigments with white creating a pastel color, a tint, painted on small canvases.

Late Roman Painting: Terre Verte, o/c, 20x19", 1996

Late Roman Painting: Permanent Carmine, o/c, 19x18", 1996

Late Roman Painting: French Yellow Ochre Medium Tint, o/c, 18x17", 1996

Late Roman Paintings: Manganese Violet Tint, Manganese Violet, Vermilion, each 17x16", 1996
